Recipe: Norweigian Meatcakes with Sauce
Ingredients
- 2 lbs ground beef
- 2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp pepper
- 1/2 tsp nutmeg
- 1/2 tsp ground ginger
- 4 Tbsp potato starch/flour
- 14oz non-dairy milk (This is just under 2 cups)
- 4 Tbsp mashed potatoes (Can use 2 eggs if not allergic)
Instructions
- Place ground beef in a bowl, add salt, and work in. It should become sticky.
- Add the potato stach and spices. Stir Well.
- Add milk 2 Tbsp at a time. Stir well before adding more milk.
- Add potato (or eggs).
- With a Tbsp dipped in cold water, form small “cakes” and fry them in a frying pan with non-dairy butter. Remove and place on plate when cooked.

Recipe: Sauce
Ingredients
- 4 cups water
- 1-1/2 cups Rice Flour Mix
- 14 oz non-dairy milk
- 2 bouillon cubes
- 2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp pepper
Instructions
- After you have fried the meatcakes, add the 2 cups water to the pan and let it boil. Add the bouillon cube.
- Whisk together milk and flour until there are no lumps.
- Add the milk/flour mixture to the boiling water while stirring.
- Add meatcakes to the sauce and let simmer for 10-15 minutes. Salt and pepper to taste.
Quick Notes
Serve with boiled potatoes, carrots, and peas. Traditionally served on lefse.
